BLURBS FOR TWO OF LOIS' NOVELS
Matthew, Matt, Mattie
Matthew's life is full of questions:
Can there be any more than three Matthews in one class?
How can his sister spend hours on her mobile phone?
Why does Simon Duffin only pick on him?
How may jokes will be need to have his own show?
Can you really change a donkey into a camel?
But when things become serious at home, the questions change:
Why does Mum keep coming in to see Mr Dooling after school?
Why do they keep trying to tell him what's wrong with Dad?
How can he get revenge on Simon Duffin?
Later, Matthew realises he knows some of the answers:
Simon Duffin is not 'hard' he's just a bully.
It doesn't really matter if he's called Matthew, Matt or Mattie.
Even though his Dad has gone, he is still watching over him.
Sorry Beth
Amy is not being bullied.
Amy is not the bully.
Amy is the one in the middle - the observer.
Caught up in the nightmare around her, she agonises over what to do. She's desperate for a friend, always a loner - hanging on to the edge of a group - never quite belonging.
Amy is terrified.
Should she try to stand up for Beth? Or will she then become the new victim? Should she remain silent and let them destroy the one person who has shown any friendship to her?
As the mental torture turns towards physical pain, Amy's life becomes entwined with Beth's and both girls suffer their own torment.
Finally, too scared and ashamed of her own fear, Amy turns her back on Beth and only when it is too late does she finally gain the strength to stand up against the gang.
